CAPTURE THE FUTURE SECOND EDITION

The Bio-Waste2Carbon (BW2C) project, an initiative led by SustainC in partnership with Fravizel, ADAI, and the University of Coimbra, is currently accepting applications for its second edition of summer internships. Aimed at university students in the fields of engineering, the internships offer a monthly stipend of €700 and the opportunity to integrate into research and development activities in the areas of carbon capture and sustainable forest waste management.

Part of a broader effort to mitigate climate change, the BW2C project focuses on converting forest waste into biogenic solid CO2 through a disruptive, modular, and energy-autonomous carbon capture technology. This innovative approach aims to contribute to decarbonization and the strengthening of the carbon value chain, while simultaneously promoting more sustainable forest management. By encouraging the recovery of forest waste, the project also contributes to reducing fire risks and implementing the principles of a circular bioeconomy.

Eight vacancies will be available for these summer internships, distributed between the University of Coimbra and ADAI, with four vacancies assigned to each institution. Although candidates can choose to apply to only one of the entities, submitting applications to both may increase the chances of selection. The internships will take place between July and September 2026. During the month of July, the selected candidates will participate in in-person laboratory activities and specialized technical training. In August, they will have the opportunity to participate in a technological challenge, with the possibility of remote execution. The program will culminate in September with the submission of final reports and the presentation of the results developed throughout the internship.

As a form of recognition for the commitment and performance demonstrated throughout the program, three merit awards will be granted, sponsored by SustainC. The prizes consist of FNAC vouchers worth €500 for the first-place winner, €250 for the second, and €150 for the third, accompanied by their respective certificates for first, second, and third place. Additionally, all program participants will receive a certificate of participation, recognizing their involvement and contribution to the activities developed within the scope of the BW2C project.

Applications are open until June 11, 2026. Interested students must submit their application through the form available at the links below, taking advantage of this opportunity to join an innovative project in the field of sustainability and carbon capture.
