RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS OPEN FOR APPLICATIONS
MAY 2025

The Bio-Waste2Carbon (BW2C) project, an initiative led by SustainC and Fravizel in partnership with ADAI and the University of Coimbra, is currently accepting applications for a set of paid research internships. Aimed at university students from engineering and related fields, these internships offer the opportunity to engage in innovative research focused on carbon capture and sustainable forest management.

As part of a broader mission to mitigate climate change, the BW2C project explores the conversion of forest biomass residues into carbon capture resources through mobile, energy-autonomous cryogenic technology. This novel approach not only reduces carbon emissions but also adds value to forest waste, contributing to wildfire prevention and promoting the principles of a circular bioeconomy.

A total of eight research scholarships will be awarded, with four internships based at the University of Coimbra and four at ADAI. While applicants may choose to apply to only one of the institutions, submitting applications to both increases the likelihood of selection. The internships will run from July to September 2025. In July, selected candidates will participate in on-site laboratory training and technical orientation. During August, they will take part in a technological challenge, which may be completed remotely. In September, the program will conclude with the submission of final reports of the research outcomes.

In recognition of outstanding commitment and performance, one intern will be selected to receive a merit award, sponsored by SustainC. This award consists of a €1,000 FNAC voucher.

Applications are open until June 11, 2025, and interested candidates are encouraged to apply promptly to seize this opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge environmental research.
